That is the whole count of listed massage and spa venues in Zhudong town. Fifteen listed venues in all: thirteen massage, two izakaya. For scale, Hsinchu City's East District has thirty-three and Zhubei has thirty-three. Zhudong does not reach half of either, and not one of its thirteen is the kind of chain foot hall that stays lit into the small hours. A Hakka hill town's night rests on these thirteen.
Traps first.
Two addresses that fool navigation
范師傅養生館 專業女師父 sits at Sec. 1 of Dongning Rd 319. 竹東按摩FUN輕鬆指壓工作坊 竹東店竹東腳底按摩 sits at Sec. 2 of Dongning Rd 319. Same number, different section, different shop. The first is 4.8 on 160 reviews, 0938 832 917; the second 4.5 on 318, 03 595 5898.
The second trap is a chain with two branches here. 佐登妮絲專業SPA_竹東長春店 is at Sec. 3 of Changchun Rd 205; 佐登妮絲專業SPA_竹東中正店 is at Zhongzheng Rd 181, under a kilometre apart, five minutes by car. One town supporting two branches of the same spa brand says more about the local spending structure than any rating does: there are enough regular skincare and beauty customers for two sites, and not enough for a single late-night foot hall.

One street, Sec. 3 of Changchun Rd, takes three of them: 夏沐荷spa館-竹東長春店 at 51, the Jourdeness Changchun branch at 205, 舒壓工作室 at 246. The other foot shop is 吾禪足體養生會館-竹東旭光店 at Xuguang 2nd Rd 3, 4.8 on 104 reviews, still advertising for therapists in its own registered name.
For gua sha, cupping or herbal baths, one address in the whole town is listed for it — Datong Rd 173, beside the Jilin earth-god shrine. Thai is also a single shop, 雙象泰式養生館, in Lane 72 of Sec. 2 of Changchun Rd.
Pretty ratings, thin samples

夏沐荷spa館-竹東長春店 tops out at 391 reviews; 柚子舒壓坊-#竹東精油身體按摩#臉部護膚#白雲山熱精油深層舒緩 at Sec. 2 of Zhongfeng Rd 193 has only sixty-five. All thirteen together come to about 1,700, while one Zhubei hall alone carries over 3,200. At that volume a few regulars leaving reviews can push a score to the ceiling, so read a five as 'nothing has gone badly wrong'. 世揚局部按摩 at Rongle St 43, 4.4 on 66, has the most honest-looking spread of the lot.
The ones you cannot simply walk into
Read the phone number.
Landline shops have a counter and a shopfront: 夏沐荷, 舒壓工作室 at Sec. 3 of Changchun Rd 246, 泉芯羽 at Datong Rd 173, both Jourdeness branches. A weekday early-evening call still has a chance.
Mobile numbers are a different species — 范師傅 on 0938, 漾美顏舒壓工作室 in Lane 145 of Zhishan Rd on 0939, 柚子舒壓坊 on 0988, 雙象 on 0910. One or two therapists, slots gone by the time you call that day, and 純粹紓壓 in Lane 85 of Sec. 1 of Zhongfeng Rd lists no number whatsoever. These are not shops refusing walk-ins; there is no walk-in counter to refuse you.
An hour of foot work runs roughly NT$800–1,200, ninety minutes of Thai roughly NT$1,200–1,800. Posted rates are final.
Driving in from Zhubei or East District
Verdict first: not worth it.
Zhubei to the Zhudong interchange on Highway 68 is twenty to twenty-five minutes; East District on Provincial Highway 3 about thirty-five to forty. An hour round trip does not buy cheaper work — the small shops here are not undercutting anyone — it buys fewer options and an earlier close.
The cases that justify the drive:
- You already live around Zhudong, Beipu, Hengshan or Qionglin
- Thai, gua sha or cupping, where Zhudong's single listings book more easily
- Afternoon to six, not eight o'clock after work
- You follow a therapist, not a shop
After nine, fewer than half of the thirteen are still lit, and the last Neiwan Line train from Zhudong toward Hsinchu goes around ten. Late October brings the northeast monsoon in, the hill town turns damp and cold, shoulders stiffen fast, and this is the hardest month to get a same-day slot. One Wednesday in October
Two in the afternoon, into Sec. 3 of Changchun Rd; book ninety minutes at 夏沐荷 at number 51 and you are out a little after four. Six, a bowl of Hakka flat rice noodles around the Central Market.
For a drink, the town lists two izakaya: 塊肉究派 at Sanmin St 61, 4.6 on 404 reviews, right beside the Hsiao Ju-sung Art Park; and 一夜乾日式串燒居酒屋 at Renai Rd 232, 4.3. If you have been drinking, do not ride the mountain road — leave the vehicle and call a designated driver.
