Chain logic: per head, by slot, minimum spend, buffet extra or included. Weekday afternoons cheapest, Friday-Saturday eight to dawn dearest, same room up to double. Weekend nights commonly NT$500–800 a head, food and singing included.
Benz KTV Zhongcheng at West Central Zhongcheng Rd No. 18 — 4.4, 4,800-plus reviews, the most-reviewed rooms in Tainan and the headline of the West Central KTV list. Cashbox Tainan Ximen at Heyi Rd No. 99 (2,500-plus, 4.1), Tainan's only Cashbox. Benz KTV Fuqian at Fuqian Rd Sec. 2 No. 276 (1,900-plus), same brand, ten minutes' walk when Zhongcheng is full. East District's Warmth KTV Tainan Zhonghua at Zhonghua E. Rd Sec. 1 No. 22 (4,600-plus, 4.4) and Zhongcheng are the two mountains of Tainan room counts; Benz KTV Nanfang, 8F of No. 358 on the same road (2,300-plus), sits above the mall — the whole East District list is this one road. Anping's Warmth KTV Tainan Anping at Qingping Rd No. 8 (1,600-plus, 4.6) spares guesthouse visitors the trip downtown.
Reporter's judgment: big groups, eating, elders, receipts — this band. Booking is iron law; Friday-Saturday walk-ins wait an hour.
Page two: local rooms, a tier cheaper
Tainan's specialty: non-chain, room-based, a tier kinder, NT$300–500 a head common. Equipment a little older than the chains — plainly true; regulars, birthdays and family gatherings.
Yongkang is the main stage. Star Land KTV at Zhongzheng N. Rd No. 215 — 4.9, 840-plus — tops the Yongkang list on both rating and reviews; Friday nights and school holidays peak, so phone first. Juxing International KTV, behind-left of Zhongzheng S. Rd No. 378 (4.7, 330-plus) — read "behind-left" carefully; smaller, right for friends. Gaga Jiao KTV at Yongda Rd Sec. 2 No. 1598 (42 reviews); 007 Bistro in Lane 110 of Zhonghua 2nd Rd (140-plus), bistro with karaoke, eat first. West Central's Leyoyo Leisure KTV & Mahjong at Jinhua Rd Sec. 3 No. 257 (250-plus, 4.5) puts rooms and mahjong tables under one roof.
Reporter's judgment: four to eight people, tight budget, unfussy about gear — best value here.
Page three: practice rooms and karaoke, per room not per head
Billed by room or time, no per-head minimum. Two or three people, two hours, a few hundred — the cheapest way to sing downtown.
Daxiaoyan Practice Room at West Central Chenggong Rd No. 429 (4.9, 110-plus) — the name says practice. Street Corner Karaoke at Zhengxing St No. 121 1F (100-plus, 4.1), inside the Zhengxing shopping lanes. East District's Cocobar Phone Booth KTV at Zhonghua E. Rd Sec. 1 No. 66 (40-plus), one-to-two-person booths, solo singing welcome. Guiren's Best Karaoke KTV at Xinyi S. Rd No. 61 (150-plus) is the only listing on the HSR side.
Reporter's judgment: few people, practicing, not eating — here; big groups won't fit.
Appendix: three places you overpay
Slot transitions — enter a chain at seven, cross into the ten o'clock peak, two bills; settle exit time when booking. What "includes food" means — buffet and set meals are different things; ask. "Behind-left" and "8F" — read what follows the street number; circling the block on the first visit is normal, and time is money.
Getting home
West Central and East rely on Tainan TRA station and buses, last services early; Yongkang on Yongkang TRA station or Route 86; Anping on taxis only.
