When friends ask me for a Taipei massage recommendation, I ask back: how many minutes are you willing to walk?
That’s not a dodge. Taipei’s density puts two or three shops at every MRT exit, and choosing by photos or décor loses to choosing by three numbers. Walk through the method and the shortlist writes itself.
The first number: six thousand
Only four massage houses in Taipei clear six thousand reviews.

What does six thousand mean? Fifty customers a day, one review per ten visits — that’s over three years of accumulation. Surviving that volume at 4.9 rules out any structural problem with technique, hygiene or scheduling. First time in Taipei, no homework done: pick whichever of the four sits closest to your hotel. Done.
The second number: the decimal
Read the rating against the volume, or it will lie to you.
A perfect score over a few dozen reviews can be an opening-week cheering squad. A 4.9 across thousands is a shop graded daily by strangers and still standing. That’s why 慈母手 holding 5.0 over 6,500-plus reviews is a one-of-a-kind result — while the chain world offers 指舞春秋足體養生會館 at No. 37 Anhe Rd Sec. 2, a 4.2 over 2,400-plus: flat score, big volume, standardized. Low landmine risk, low surprise.
High decimal with high volume buys craft; a flat 4.2 with high volume buys consistency. Both are legitimate — it depends on tonight.
The third number: walking minutes
The last gate is the simplest: any great shop beyond fifteen minutes on foot, let it go.
Massage is relaxation, not pilgrimage. The Zhongshan massage belt runs from Changchun Rd to Linsen N Rd, all within ten minutes of MRT Zhongshan or Songjiang Nanjing. East-siders should pick from the Daan list. In Shilin, 森SPA足體養生館 at No. 102 Wenlin Rd — 3,900-plus reviews, 4.8 — is five minutes from the night market. In Minsheng Community, 江南足體養生會館 at No. 102 Minsheng E Rd Sec. 2, 3,600-plus at 4.9, answers for Songshan.
Price floor to carry: NT$700–1,000 for sixty foot-work minutes, NT$1,200–2,000 for ninety full-body, big houses ten to twenty percent higher, all subject to posted rates. Weekday two-to-five is the empty window; after nine, even the four giants queue.
