Search “cheap massage” in Taipei and you don’t find a price.
You find a category.
The city lists 295 massage shops. Broken out: 100 foot work, 94 spa houses, 59 wellness parlours, 42 Thai massage and spa. The NT$800–1,200 hour belongs to exactly one of those columns — foot work. The other three either run course packages or start at ninety minutes, and none of them lands in the same bracket.
So this reads one column of a hundred.
Fifty-Nine of Them in Three Districts
Da’an 22, Zhongshan 21, Wanhua 16.
Fifty-nine between three districts, close to six-tenths of the city’s foot-work total. The remaining 41 split across Xinyi 12, Songshan 11, Datong 7, Neihu 6 and Shilin 5 — meaning “there’s one downstairs” stops being true in the bottom half of that list. The Taipei massage and spa overview lays out the category mix district by district.
Shilin is the extreme case: fewest shops, all of them big houses, three of them on one intersection of Wenlin Rd.
Ximen Is the Cheapest Short Walk
If you want density, it’s the blocks around MRT Ximen.
1F, No. 109 Emei St. is 元氣養生會館, 4.9 stars and 6,500-plus reviews, 02 2371 8882. No. 115 Xining S. Rd. is 清體養生會館-西門武昌店, a perfect score on 5,000-plus, 02 2388 8685. No. 101 Kunming St. is 足spa101, 4.9 and 4,600-plus, 02 2388 6077. And 2F, No. 15, Ln. 50, Sec. 2 Wuchang St. is 夯足足體養身會館(西門旗艦店), 4.9 and 2,600-plus, 02 2361 9558.
Four doors, all within a ten-minute walk.
Read those numbers as traffic, not as technique. All four sit on the Ximen closing-time flow; from nine to eleven on Friday and Saturday nights the wait starts at half an hour. Walk in between two and six on a weekday and it’s a different place entirely. Full list on Wanhua massage.
Da’an and Zhongshan: Bigger Numbers, More Spread
In Da’an’s 22, 慈母手足體養生會館 at 1F, No. 19, Aly. 19, Ln. 216, Sec. 4 Zhongxiao E. Rd. holds a perfect score on 6,500-plus reviews, 02 2711 9957; 沐心苑足體健康養生館 at No. 34, Ln. 240 Guangfu S. Rd. runs 4.9 on 3,200-plus, 02 2781 0766. Zhongshan has 表參道足體養生會館 Taipei Massage at 1F, No. 348-4 Changchun Rd., 4.9 on 6,800-plus, 02 2719 3838, and 江南足體養生會館 at No. 102, Sec. 2 Minsheng E. Rd., 4.9 on 3,600-plus.
The difference from Ximen is legwork. Both districts carry more shops, but spread across several MRT stations, so a full first choice doesn’t put the second within walking distance. For trying doors back to back, Ximen still costs you less walking.
Datong’s Seven Are Cheap in a Different Way
No. 61, Sec. 3 Chengde Rd. is 上野足體健康, 4.6 stars on 240 reviews. Further along the same road, 1F, No. 19, Ln. 208 is 妙仙慧養生館-大同全身按摩, a perfect score on 220-plus. And 2F, No. 199 Chang’an W. Rd. is 永樂, 4.9 on 240-plus, listed under a mobile, 0909 333 728.
Not one of the district’s seven clears 300 reviews.
One or two therapists, few tables, pretty scores because the sample is small. This cluster isn’t walk-in — phone or message for a slot before you leave. On the mobile-number shops, nobody picks up while a therapist has a client on the table; if it rings out, send a message instead.
Three Things That Look Like Bargains
A forty-minute trial rate doesn’t necessarily divide into a low hourly one. A spa house’s first-visit price leads into a course package, and visit two is back above NT$1,500 per head. Ear cleaning, gua sha and cupping are usually billed on top — ask before you lie down.
Our database holds no price lists. Every figure above is a going range, and the door’s posted rates win.
Whether you want soles worked or your whole body loosened is a question about category, not budget; that line is drawn in reflexology in Taipei, and the door numbers by district are in massage shops. If you’ve been drinking, don’t book deep pressure — leave the car and call a driver.
