Step out of Yuli Station and Zhongzheng Rd is on your left. Count the massage signs along it: two.
Those two are half the town’s total allowance. Four on file: 玉享足體按摩 /越式洗髮 with 156 reviews, 百合足體按摩 with 92, 吉祥茉莉SPA按摩 with 84, 于庭國際美學 with 76. All four at five stars.
Four perfect scores. Hold off on reading that as a guarantee — the fine-print section explains why.
Stub 01: No. 138 Zhongzheng Rd, issued in two coupons
玉享足體按摩 /越式洗髮, No. 138 Zhongzheng Rd, five stars, 156 reviews, phone 0966 701 731.
于庭國際美學, No. 138 Zhongzheng Rd, five stars, 76 reviews, phone 0966 701 731.
Same door number. Same phone line.
This is not a data error — it is how a small town works. One space carries two names, and one number fields two kinds of request. Ask for 玉享 if you want foot work; ask for 于庭 for the aesthetics side. The call lands in the same place, so just be clear on arrival.
It is under a ten-minute walk from the station, which makes it the one stub that never requires starting an engine. Vietnamese-style hair washing rides on this stub too, so it is the only address in town where a massage and a hair wash come in one visit.
Stubs 02 and 03: the two that need a turn into the side streets
百合足體按摩 sits opposite No. 39 Guangming St, five stars, 92 reviews, phone 0975 621 966. Guangming St runs behind the main strip, a ten-minute-odd stroll from the Yuli noodle blocks. Foot work only, second on review count, and the signage is small enough that walking past it is normal. Phone ahead and ask tonight’s closing time.
吉祥茉莉SPA按摩 is at No. 16 Leyuan St, across from the CPC filling station, five stars, 84 reviews. It is the only one of the four registered as a spa house, and no phone appears on the public record, so reaching it means showing up. Drivers have it easiest: the filling station is the landmark and parking takes no detour.
If you want a routine that goes beyond foot work, this is the only stub you can punch.
The fine print: where those perfect scores come from
Four shops, four perfect scores. Line the review counts up and it reads differently: 156, 92, 84, 76.
Every one under a thousand. That is a small-town sample.
Massage shops in Hualien City routinely carry thousands of reviews, and a perfect score is hard to hold there. What one Yuli shop collects in a year, a busy shop in Hualien City collects in a month. Small sample, flattering number.
Not a criticism — a reading instruction. These five stars tell you the locals come back. They do not tell you this is the strongest technique in the county; the sample cannot carry that claim. Honest is better, and this is the scale Yuli runs at.
One more line of fine print: none of the four runs around the clock. Service hours here follow the street. The old noodle shops sell out by seven or eight, the town is quiet enough past nine to hear the river, and no massage shop stays lit alone until two. Book it before eight in the evening. An afternoon slot is safer still.
Driving an hour from Hualien City on purpose — worth it?
No.
Hualien City has the choice, the hours, and doors that still open after midnight. These four mean something because you are already in Yuli. Driving an hour south for one foot massage and an hour back in the dark buys you nothing.
Two exceptions.
August to mid-September, the Chike Mountain daylily season. After sunrise on the ridge and a morning of switchbacks, your legs want hands on them. Mountain guesthouses sell out those weeks, so you are in town anyway — walk in after you come down, and stop thinking about driving north.
The second: a southbound valley trip where Yuli is tonight’s bed. Take a seat at a bistro on file for dinner, finish on the stub at No. 138 Zhongzheng Rd, walk ten minutes back to the guesthouse. That itinerary holds.
The return ticket
Two things to keep.
If you had drinks at dinner, do not drive yourself to the massage shop. Street lighting thins out here, taxi supply is limited, and a designated driver is not the on-demand service it is in the city. Save the dispatch number before you head out, or simply sleep within walking distance of Zhongzheng Rd and Guangming St.
Prices, hours, and whether booking is required all follow each shop’s own notice. Three of the four list a phone — one call before you leave beats standing in front of a shutter.
Keep the stub. The one from No. 138 Zhongzheng Rd will be the same number next time.
