Taichung KTV Price Guide: Chains vs. Self-Service

QUICK ANSWER Chains (Party, Silver Cabinet, Holiday, Warmth) bill per head by slot — weekday afternoons cheapest, Friday-Saturday eight to dawn dearest, up to double. Self-service (Super Star, East Star, Hometown Garden) — fridge drinks, hourly, light minimum, per-head often 60–70% of a chain. Four or fewer on a weeknight: self-service. Eight-plus on a weekend wanting the buffet: chain. Posted prices rule.

Same night, same group, Taichung — and the bill can double.

Not because one venue is better. Because you walked into a "chain" or a "self-service" room. Two entirely different formulas. The math first, then where to go.

Two formulas

Chain: Party, Silver Cabinet, Holiday, Warmth. Per head by slot, minimum spend or package, buffet extra or included. Weekday afternoons cheapest, Friday-Saturday eight to dawn dearest, same room up to double. Staff bring food, a bell summons them, receipts available.

Self-service: Super Star, East Star, Hometown Garden. Fridge drinks and snacks, hourly billing, almost no minimum. Nobody opens the door for you, nobody pushes you to extend. Posted prices rule; below are concepts.

Scenario one: three people, Wednesday 8pm, two hours

Chain: weeknight per-head plus minimum, three people often NT$1,200–1,800. Self-service: by room or hour, three people two hours commonly NT$800–1,200, drinks from the fridge. Thirty to forty percent apart. Few people, weekday, no food — self-service wins.

Scenario two: ten people, Saturday 9pm, four hours, eating

Chain: peak per-head is steep, but a ten-person package with buffet often lands at NT$600–1,000 each, fed and sung out. Self-service: a big room four hours by the hour, fridge snacks, no hot food — per head might drop to NT$400–500, but ten people on fridge snacks for four hours is a different experience. Chain isn't necessarily dearer here, and it's easier. Birthday, celebration, elders — chain.

Where the chains are

Party YES KTV Taichung, West District Taiwan Blvd Sec. 2 No. 16 — 7,200-plus reviews, 4.7, the most-reviewed chain room in the city. Xitun has three: Warmth KTV Xitun Chaoma at Qinghai S. St No. 79 (5,400-plus), Silver Cabinet KTV Fengjia at Xitun Rd Sec. 2 No. 273-5 (4,800-plus), Silver Cabinet KTV Flagship at Taiwan Blvd Sec. 3 No. 527 (2,300-plus). Silver Cabinet Yiguang, 11F-1 of Lüchuan W. St No. 133 in Central (3,100-plus), covers the old town. Holiday KTV Wenxin at Beitun Wenxin Rd Sec. 4 No. 821 (1,600-plus) and Warmth KTV Nantun Xiangxue at Daguan Rd No. 38 (1,100-plus, 4.7). Chains dominate the Xitun and West District KTV lists.

Where self-service is

Beitun is the stronghold: Super Star Self-Service KTV Jingmao Flagship at Zhongqing Rd Sec. 2 No. 1023 (5,300-plus, 4.6), Super Star Zhouji Chongde at Chongde 10th Rd Sec. 1 No. 430 (2,900-plus, 4.8), East Star Self-Service KTV at Hefu Rd No. 177 (2,100-plus) — all on the Beitun list. Super Star Shizheng Henan at Xitun Henan Rd Sec. 3 No. 109 (3,200-plus, 4.7), Super Star Taichung Park at North District Gongyuan Rd No. 195 (3,700-plus), Super Star Wenxin Nantun at Fengfu Rd No. 151 (560-plus), smaller. Out of town: Hometown Garden Self-Service KTV Dali at Daming Rd No. 509 (2,500-plus) and Super Star Fengyuan Xiangyang in Lane 170 of Xiangyang Rd (3,000-plus, 4.7).

Two traps

Slot transitions: enter a chain at seven, cross into the ten o'clock peak, and the bill splits in two — settle your exit time when booking. "No minimum" at self-service isn't "cheap forever": weekend nights add, and a big room's hourly fee stacks; ask the total formula at the door.

Q&A

FAQ

Q1What is a self-service KTV?

Rooms where you fetch drinks and snacks from a fridge, pay by time, and face almost no minimum spend. Super Star is the biggest brand — the Jingmao flagship at Beitun Zhongqing Rd Sec. 2 No. 1023 has 5,300-plus reviews. A Taichung specialty, rare elsewhere in western Taiwan.

Q2Which is cheaper?

Usually self-service, often 60–70% of chain per-head cost. Exception: eight-plus people, weekend, buffet — chain packages come close. Posted prices rule; billing differs widely.

Q3Most-reviewed chain KTV in Taichung?

Party YES KTV Taichung at West District Taiwan Blvd Sec. 2 No. 16 — 7,200-plus reviews, 4.7. Then Warmth KTV Xitun Chaoma at Qinghai S. St No. 79, 5,400-plus, and Silver Cabinet Fengjia at Xitun Rd Sec. 2 No. 273-5, 4,800-plus.

Q4Cheapest slot?

Weekday afternoons. A chain's same room can double between a weekday afternoon and a Friday night; self-service slot gaps are smaller but weekends still add. Arrive by three, leave before six.

Q5Getting home after drinking?

Rooms hold more alcohol than you expect. Downtown venues: Taichung TRA station or buses; Wenxin Rd venues: MRT Green Line, last train around midnight; otherwise cab or designated driver, never drive.
