West District Massage & Spa Picks: One Trunk Line on Taiwan Blvd Sec. 2, Three Branches

QUICK ANSWER West District massage and spa comes down to four roads. Taiwan Blvd Sec. 2 is the trunk: a Thai spa at No. 108 (book ahead), a foot bath at No. 157 with 22,000-plus reviews, a 24-hour foot massage house at No. 357. Dahe Road, Xiangshang Rd Sec. 1 and Wuquan 5th St are branches. Foot massage runs around NT$1,000 an hour, spa often from NT$2,000; posted prices apply.

West District lists thirty massage and spa venues, and most of them sit on four roads. You don’t need to read all thirty.

First, who shouldn’t bother.

If this is you, don’t make a special trip

Live in North District? The row of foot massage houses on Wuquan Road is a walk away, prices printed on the signboards. No reason to cross town. Same for travellers staying in Fengjia — Fuxing Road has its own. How the whole city sorts by type and price band is in how to choose a Taichung massage or spa.

West District suits two kinds of people. Those having dinner by the Calligraphy Greenway who want a session afterwards, and those who want a spa, want the setting, and are willing to book. Just after forty minutes on your feet, the cheaper the better? This isn’t the district’s strength.

Trunk line: Taiwan Blvd Sec. 2, low numbers to high

From Taichung Station take a Taiwan Boulevard trunk bus, about fifteen minutes. All four stops are on the same road.

No. 108, 泰森林 Thai Forest. 2,800-plus reviews at 5.0, a spa house, phone 04 2206 6838. Don’t turn up without a booking.

No. 157, 春不荖足湯養生館 中港行館 (foot bath and wellness house). 22,400-plus reviews at 4.9 — the highest count in West District, more than ten times the runner-up. A lot of reviews doesn’t mean no wait: Friday and Saturday from eight to ten is peak queue. Weekday afternoons avoid it.

No. 357, 人蔘足體養生會館 (foot massage). The registered name itself states 24-hour operation in West District; 1,800-plus reviews at 4.8. Drivers, note the venue’s own instruction: navigate to Guanqian Rd No. 57. Plenty of car parks by the back door, parking at your own cost, no partner discount. At 2 a.m., this is the one stop West District has.

No. 559, ALSO SPA. 280-plus at 4.9. It’s nearly a kilometre from Park Lane by now. Walk it and you’ll regret it.

Branch one: Dahe Road, two venues eighteen numbers apart

婧仕女微旅 at Dahe Rd No. 3 — 1,700-plus at 4.9, a spa house. 熊腳丫足體養生會館 at No. 21 — 1,900-plus at 4.8, foot massage. One needs a booking, the other you can ask at the door.

Two people can each take their own and meet up a minute’s walk later.

Branch two: Xiangshang Rd Sec. 1

The closest branch to Shen Ji New Village (Lane 368, Minsheng Rd). 泰瑪沙-Thai Spa 泰式按摩-西區泰式按摩推薦 at Lane 79 No. 24 has 1,100-plus at 5.0; 美姿舫spa養生會館 at No. 27-9 has 390-plus; further west at No. 368, 天麗能量整腹Spa概念館 has 1,700-plus at 4.9. Its name says abdominal work, so this isn’t standard acupressure — ask exactly what the session covers before you book.

Shen Ji New Village in the afternoon, massage at dusk, dinner at seven. Don’t reverse it. Lying face-down on a full stomach is nobody’s problem but yours.

Branch three: Wuquan 5th Street, two foot massage houses

庄腳足體養生會館 at No. 43: 1,300-plus reviews, 4.2. 鶴康屋足體養生會館 at No. 151: 1,200-plus, 4.6.

Same street, same category, similar review counts, 0.4 apart on rating. I’d walk the extra hundred-odd door numbers.

The street is close to the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Wuquan W Rd Sec. 1 No. 2) — finish the exhibition, walk over.

If you have a specific problem to fix

鬆鶴 張力平衡專家 金典綠園道店 on B1 of Jianxing Rd No. 1049 has 1,400-plus at 5.0, about half a kilometre from Park Lane. 緩緩Massage Studio-筋膜刀運動按摩 on 2F of Minquan Rd No. 45 has 200-plus; the name spells out fascia-blade and sports massage, which is what runners and ball players look for. It sits on the district’s eastern edge, over two kilometres from the Greenway and actually nearer Taichung Station. 太原養生會館 at Dongxing Rd Sec. 3 No. 160 has 1,700-plus at 4.7 and is outside the Greenway walking radius — drive or cab.

Prices and timing

The listing doesn’t record prices, so going rates only: foot massage around NT$1,000 an hour, oil spa and Thai often from NT$2,000. Exact prices and hours follow each venue’s posting.

A place that quotes only after you’re inside — turn around.

Weekday afternoons are emptiest. For a Friday or Saturday evening spa slot, book a day or two ahead. September evenings are still muggy; a foot bath on a weekday afternoon beats queueing in the evening crush.

If you’ve been drinking

Most Greenway bistros close around midnight, and plenty of people only think of a massage after the last glass. Ask the therapist to go light; skip deep-tissue. Cab or designated driver home, and leave the car in a Park Lane garage until the next day.

For how to link dinner and drinks, see the West District Greenway bistro belt. The full list is at West District massage & spa; bars and KTV are under West District.
