From Beimen the road runs north all the way to Shezi. Two administrative districts, two different nights.
Search “Yanping North Road massage” and you probably picture a row of shopfronts.
There is no row. Only two listed massage shops carry a house number on this road, and both sit on Sec. 5 — 蘭泰坊泰式按摩 at No. 178, 1F, 4.5 stars and 142 reviews, and next door at No. 186, 泰和軒泰式SPA養生會館-士林泰式按摩推薦, 5 stars and 140. On the Datong stretch, Sec. 1 through Sec. 4, the count is zero.
The south: massage is on the street to the left and the street to the right, never in the middle
Thirty listed massage shops in Datong. Not one on Yanping N. Rd.
A map explains it. Sections 1 to 4 are squeezed between two older arteries — one block west is Dihua Street, one block east is Chongqing N. Rd. Dry-goods and fabric houses fill Dihua, Chongqing swallows the traffic, and the road in the middle is left with apartments and hardware shops. Massage needs footfall and ground-floor frontage, so it moved to the sides. Full list on the Datong massage category page.
To find a table down south, go sideways:
- 太原養生會館_天水店 at Tianshui Rd 14 — 4.8 stars, 1,800-plus reviews, the highest count in Datong.
- Chang’an W. Rd runs west until it meets Yanping N. Rd. 季川養生館 at No. 190, 1F has 1,100-plus reviews, 永樂 at No. 199, 2F has 240-plus; practically neighbours.
- 本川養生御所—足底按摩 at Minsheng W. Rd 225, 2F — 650-plus reviews, feet only. The right call when Dadaocheng has worn your legs out.
- BODY CITY MASSAGE 運動按摩 北門旗艦店 at Gangu St 35, 1F — a clean 5 with 280 reviews. Go for a pulled hamstring or a desk-locked lower back, not for a nap.
- Past Minquan W. Rd, 華南泰式會館 at No. 215-6, Sec. 2 of Dihua St has 85 reviews and sits one block off Sec. 3 of Yanping N. Rd.
Going rate: NT$800–1,200 for 60 minutes of foot work, NT$1,200–1,800 for 90 minutes of Thai. Posted rates are final.
Sec. 2 keeps its lights on — it just doesn’t sell massage
The second section is not quiet at night. 星聚點KTV台北旗艦館 at No. 83 holds 4.1 stars and 3,600-plus reviews, the biggest review count on the whole road. 叁壹居酒屋Izakaya at No. 93 has 144. BarWay at Lane 61, No. 20, 1F has 4.9 stars and 137, with barely any seats.
Three thousand six hundred against a hundred and forty-two.
That ratio is the honest picture of Yanping N. Rd.: a road for singing and drinking, not for massage. If you drink here, leave the scooter or car parked, call a designated driver, and collect it in daylight. One way to walk this neighbourhood’s night is in the line from Dihua Street to Chifeng Street.
Across the bridge, Sec. 5: No. 178 and No. 186
Same road name, completely different air. Three-storey walk-ups, scooter repair shops, the river levee a few lanes away. Late October brings the northeast monsoon, and the wind off the Tamsui River genuinely bites after dark.
The two Thai shops are here, close enough to read each other’s signage. A shop-by-shop breakdown lives in the piece on those two Sec. 5 addresses.
One opinion, then.
Together they hold under three hundred reviews, and both filling between 7 and 9 p.m. is routine. Turn up without calling and you may well waste the trip — Shezi is not a night market, and there is no second shop nearby to kill time in.
Strike out on Sec. 5 and one stop south has a whole row
Ten minutes or so by scooter or cab from Sec. 5 to the MRT Shilin area, and that stretch is where Shilin massage actually lives. 森SPA足體養生館 - 士林館 at Wenlin Rd 102 carries 3,900-plus reviews, the highest in the district; 夯足足體養生會館 Hang Foot Massage at No. 135 has 3,300-plus; 佳倍莉SPA士林捷運館 at Zhongzheng Rd 301, 2F is a clean 5 with 1,200-plus.
Thai work lines up three on Zhongzheng Rd: 錫安泰式按摩養生館 siam thai massage at No. 200, 清邁星辰泰式養生館-士林 at No. 622, 新泰屋泰式養生館 at No. 637, all around the two-hundred-review mark. One full, walk to the next — impossible on Sec. 5. Whole district on the Shilin massage category page.
Staying out in Shezi, there is also 泰和苑泰式按摩養生會館 at Shezheng Rd 66 with 119 reviews; the longer version sits in the local Shezi massage list.
One more trap: 觸動空間spa工作室(不定時休) at Lane 213, No. 26, Zhongzheng Rd spells out irregular closing days in its own name, so a spur-of-the-moment visit may find the door shut. 士林夜市 stalls run to around midnight while massage rooms close earlier, which means supper first, massage second is the wrong order.
How to use this road
Treat it as an axis, not a shopping street.
When the river wind comes down from Shezi, you will know exactly whether those ninety minutes were worth it.
