Section 5 of Yanping North Road has two massage shops on our list.
Numbers 178 and 186.
Eight door numbers between them. Under a minute on foot.
That density is rare in Taipei. Not because there is so much to compare, but because so little is left that only two questions remain: which of the two, and when should you not bother coming at all.
What the two are holding
| Shop | Address | Rating | Reviews | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 蘭泰坊泰式按摩 | Yanping N. Rd Sec. 5 No. 178, 1F | 4.5 | 142 | 02 2813 5656 |
| 泰和軒泰式SPA養生會館-士林泰式按摩推薦 | Yanping N. Rd Sec. 5 No. 186 | 5.0 | 140 | 02 2812 0290 |
Both Thai. Two reviews apart, half a star apart.
Put side by side the numbers are almost comical: near-identical sample sizes, identical category, door numbers stuck together — two control groups on one street. And 140 reviews is mid-sized by Taipei standards. Over on Wenlin Road, 森SPA足體養生館 - 士林館 carries 3,900-plus and 夯足足體養生會館 Hang Foot Massage 3,300-plus, a full order of magnitude more. The gap is not quality, it is footfall: these two serve residents who walk over, get worked on, and go home to shower. Residents rarely come back to write anything.
So —
do not choose on stars.
At 140 reviews, the distance between 4.5 and 5.0 can be three or four people’s moods on the night.
Then choose on what
MRT Shilin is at Zhongzheng Rd No. 215. Head west out of the station along Zhongzheng Road, over Bailing Bridge, and the Section 5 junction is about twenty minutes on foot, a few stops by bus, five minutes by taxi. Coming from the bridge you hit No. 178 first, then No. 186 eight numbers on.
Filters that beat the star rating:
- Even numbers back onto the levee and the residential lanes; odd numbers face the road, where traffic noise carries at night — ask about the room if you are a light sleeper
- 泰和軒 puts “SPA 養生會館” on the sign, 蘭泰坊 just says “Thai massage” — names usually tell you honestly what the house does best, so ask about combined dry-plus-oil slots if that is what you want
- The five-star one fills up after eight on Friday and Saturday nights. The number is above. Make the call before you leave
- Book sixty minutes your first time. Dry Thai stretching is not for everyone, and quitting halfway does not get you a refund
- Street-level pricing: ninety minutes for a little over NT$1,000 up to NT$1,500, oil adding NT$200–300 or so, as posted on site
If there is no price list at the door, settle it before you go in. These are residential blocks, not tourist pricing, but asking costs nothing.
What this street does not have
Feet.
If you want your soles worked and not your hamstrings, Section 5 has nothing for you. Dry Thai is stretching and pressure; sitting in a recliner with your feet in a basin while someone works your calves is a different trade entirely.
For that, walk back. 指舞春秋足體養生會館 士林會館 at Wenlin Rd No. 69 has 1,600-plus reviews; 明易足體按摩 士中館 at Zhongzheng Rd No. 211 has a hundred-odd. Both sit inside the MRT Shilin walking radius. If you are leaving 士林夜市 and still want your feet done, stay in that pocket — the whole strip is laid out in Shilin Thai massage & spa and Shilin massage & spa.
Upstairs houses with private rooms and showers are not on this stretch either.
Who should come, who should not bother
If you live along Yanping North Road or out in Shezi: both are inside your walking radius, so the question is which one has a slot tonight, not whether it is worth it.
If you are coming from downtown: it does not add up.
Bluntly, the time on the road costs more than the money saved. Equivalent street-level Thai shops sit beside every MRT line in the city — work down the Taipei massage & spa overview by line. What Section 5 sells is proximity, and proximity only counts for the people already here.
If you are determined to come, fold it into a walk north along Yanping North Road. Sections 1 to 4 are in Datong, where our registry lists no massage shop at all and the street belongs to bars and izakaya; that route is covered in Yanping North Road massage, and the list further north is in Shezi massage.
When both are full: 泰和苑泰式按摩養生會館 at Shezheng Rd No. 66, 110-plus reviews and a 4.8, about ten minutes’ walk in from Section 5, is the nearest third option. Five minutes back the other way, the two shops at Zhongzheng Rd No. 622 and No. 637 with 200-plus reviews each are still there.
Getting back
From late October the northeast monsoon pushes in off the Tamsui river mouth, and the wind on the Section 5 side bites harder at night than it does by MRT Shilin. You leave a massage with your pores open. Do not leave the jacket in the car.
Buses on Zhongzheng Road stretch their intervals after eleven, with last departures posted by route; you can flag a taxi at the junction, but late at night you will wait.
Drivers: street bays on Section 5 are scarce, the lanes are narrow, red lines get towed. If dinner involved alcohol, leave the car where it is and call a designated driver. A massage does not clear alcohol.
For how the rest of the district fits together, see the Shilin guide.
