Whoever searches “Tamsui KTV” is usually already standing in Tamsui.
So this piece does not start with the shop. It starts with your conditions. Tamsui has one regular singing venue on file, and four conditions decide whether you stay.
The shop first
Shalun Rd 257, 好久不見歡唱俱樂部, 4.2 stars, 73 reviews, phone 02 2805 2159. On the Tamsui KTV list, that is the only regular entry.
It sits on the Shalun side near Fisherman’s Wharf, not the old street. Walkable from the light-rail Fisherman’s Wharf stop; about ten minutes by taxi from MRT Tamsui Station. A 73-review small venue has no chain-style price sheet and likely bills by slot or drink minimum, so call ahead and ask how the day is charged, posted prices rule.
Four conditions
- Two to four people. A small venue cannot hold a big party; six or more, do not force it.
- Done by eleven. Small shops close early, actual hours per the shop, so do not plan on a chain’s after-midnight rhythm.
- You sleep in Tamsui, Zhuwei or the new town. Coming from Taipei just to sing here does not justify the ride.
- No need for staff bringing food or fancy machines. If you want those, next section.
All four met, stay. Miss one, let the clock decide.
A note on seasons. From November through February the northeast monsoon makes the Shalun side windy with slanting rain, and the few minutes from the light-rail stop to the door get miserable, umbrella or not. On winter nights in Tamsui, settle indoor plans in one go and do not bounce back and forth along the seaside.
Miss one, the time decides
Before eight: Sanchong or Xinzhuang is still reachable. MRT Tamsui to Sanchong Station is about thirty minutes, taxi forty-odd. Zhengyi North Rd 6, 摩羯座KTV, 2,700-plus reviews, 4.6 stars; Sec. 1 of Chongyang Rd 1, 好樂迪KTV 新北重陽店, 2,600-plus. Sec. 2 of Zhonghua Rd 19 in Xinzhuang, 凱悅YESKTV 新莊店, 20,000-plus reviews, 4.9 stars, for the big parties. Sanchong is laid out in Sanchong supper and singing.
Eight to ten: stop. You would reach Sanchong at half past ten and still queue for a room on a Friday or Saturday. Eat and drink in Tamsui instead; where to go after the old street packs up is in Tamsui old street after closing.
After ten: last MRT around midnight, and from the wharf side you need twenty minutes just to get back to the station. At this hour, singing is off for tonight.
Who should not sing in Tamsui
Company parties, birthday parties, ten or more.
Not because the shop is bad, because the scale is wrong. Restaurants around Fisherman’s Wharf and Lover’s Bridge mostly close by nine or ten; after dark that side has this singing club and convenience stores and nothing else to follow, and a big group breaking up there gets awkward.
Tamsui’s night is strong at the river mouth and the shore, not in private rooms. The Tamsui nightlife guide took apart three misconceptions; “Tamsui has no bars” was one of them, while “Tamsui has lots of KTVs” was never anyone’s mistake.
Getting back
Last train at MRT Tamsui Station around midnight. From the wharf side, light rail or taxi back to the station first.
If you drove and a bottle was opened, call a designated driver. The Danjin coastal road is empty and dark at night, and it should not be driven by anyone who has been drinking.
