Yilan Nightlife: This City's Evening Runs on the Calendar — Seven Cells, Seven Ways to Open It

QUICK ANSWER Yilan City lists 45 venues: 19 bars and bistros, 20 massage and spa houses, six singing rooms. A weekday night runs from Dongmen Night Market firing up to the small bars in the old-town lanes — get the market done before nine for the full lineup. Friday and Saturday are the only cells needing a reservation; Sunday closes earliest. The listing at No. 168, Sec. 2 Fuxing Rd. with nearly 20,000 reviews is the county's biggest, but it's a bistro, not a nightclub. Rain is the default here, so have an indoor plan.

Spread the week out into seven cells.

Yilan City’s night isn’t a route, it’s seven kinds of day. The same bar at nine on a Tuesday and nine on a Saturday is two different places.

Forty-five venues on file: 19 bars and bistros, 20 massage and spa houses, six singing rooms. Put the numbers down here, then fill the cells.

Cells One Through Four: Weekdays

A weekday in Yilan City runs in one order: eat, walk, drink.

Dongmen Night Market sits around Shenghou St. and Hemu Rd., firing up at dusk, with most stalls running to around midnight. Arrive before nine for the full lineup; after midnight only stragglers remain. Around NT$200 a head fills you up.

Then walk into the old town. 芎城餐酒Town bistro at No. 185 Jiucheng N. Rd. — 4.8 stars, 500-plus reviews, 03 936 5252 — is the easiest entry in that area. Gambling Bar at No. 212, Sec. 1 Shennong Rd. carries more weight, a perfect score across 970-plus reviews (0978 212 654), about ten minutes’ walk away.

No need to rush the stretch in between. Jimmy Square is on the Guangfu Rd. side, just south of the station, and its installations pick up quieter shadows after dark — good for walking off dinner. The old distillery buildings sit over on Jiucheng W. Rd.; the old-town night walk covers that line end to end.

Cocktails run about NT$300–400 a glass, and NT$800–1,200 covers a comfortable evening of eating and drinking.

Cells Five and Six: Friday and Saturday

These are the only two cells in the week that need a reservation.

Yilan City’s small bars have limited seating, and at the level of Gambling Bar, SHASHA BAR at No. 301, Sec. 1 Nyuzhong Rd. (4.7 stars, 220-plus reviews, 03 933 0668), or Coming Home Bar - 宜蘭酒吧 at No. 110-1F Nongquan Rd. (4.9 stars, 170-plus, 03 931 5199), walking in after eight on a weekend doesn’t guarantee a seat.

The night market runs a little later on these two nights, and the crowds are thickest.

For sheer scale, 新買醉餐酒館&COZZZY BAR at No. 168, Sec. 2 Fuxing Rd. — 4.9 stars, nearly 20,000 reviews, 0968 721 234 — is the county’s largest listing, with a second registration at the same address under its plain name carrying 7,000-plus.

The number is startling; the format needs stating. It’s a bistro. Lively tables, no dance floor. Does Yilan have nightclubs settled that question — nothing in the county’s registered listings has a dance floor, and a review count doesn’t change it.

Cell Seven: Sunday

The earliest closing cell of the week.

The night market still runs, but the old-town bars start folding ahead of schedule; once midnight passes, the streets go quiet fast. If you want to drink late, don’t put that plan on a Sunday.

Read the other way, Sunday is a good day for massage. Of the 20 listings, the foot-work house at No. 187, Sec. 3 Nyuzhong Rd. holds 4.9 stars and 2,600-plus reviews (03 933 1234); 千歲月足體養生工坊 宜蘭神農路店 at No. 55-1F, Sec. 2 Shennong Rd. holds 4.9 stars and 1,800-plus (03 932 1059); 谷峻推拿 at No. 386, Sec. 2 Nyuzhong Rd. holds 4.8 stars and 530-plus (03 932 1931). That’s the district’s solid floor.

The Rain Cell, Which Crosses All Seven

It rains often in Yilan. Not an accident — daily life. Locals call the glazed street afterward atmosphere.

Every rainy-night fallback is indoors. All six singing rooms: 超級巨星自助式KTV 蘭陽康樂店 at No. 46 Kangle Rd., 4.1 stars and 780-plus (03 935 1166); V-MAX KTV 宜蘭店 at No. 326, Sec. 3 Zhongshan Rd., perfect score and 390-plus (03 933 0999); 好樂迪KTV宜蘭店 on B1, No. 50 Jiucheng E. Rd., 4.6 stars and 220-plus (03 936 1629); 星勢力KTV at No. 45, Sec. 3 Zhongshan Rd., 4 stars and 190-plus. The other two, on Sec. 5 of Zhongshan Rd. and Hemu Rd., are small rooms in the sixty-review range.

Parts of the night market are covered, and the old-town bars and distillery halls are indoors. The rainy-night indoor plan goes finer.

Bring an umbrella. Bar nights are better in the rain anyway.

Where You’re Staying Decides Which Circle You Walk

Station, bus terminal, night market, old-town sights — all in one walkable loop. That’s the rare Yilan district that works car-free.

Taishan Rd. isn’t in it. Blue Bar at No. 319 Taishan Rd. (4.6 stars, 110-plus), Hikouki Café Bar at No. 80, Fuguo Ln. (4.9 stars, 100-plus) and 光影CAMPING Bar at No. 421 Taishan Rd. (perfect score, 40-plus) all need a car. So do HC CLUB 永昇菸酒 at No. 6-1F, Sec. 1 Lanfeng Rd. (perfect score, 210-plus) and 津吉餐酒館 at No. 117 (4.6 stars, 90-plus).

Catching the last train? Keep your final stop inside the station walking circle. TRA and intercity coach last departures are per each operator’s notices — Yilan night transport lists what to check.

After drinks, take a taxi or a designated driver; Jiaoxi and Luodong lodging are both a short ride away.

FAQ

N-01Where should the night start in Yilan City?

Eat first. Dongmen Night Market sits around Shenghou St. and Hemu Rd., with most stalls open from dusk to around midnight and a little later at weekends; arrive before nine for the full lineup. Then walk into the old-town lanes — 芎城餐酒Town bistro at No. 185 Jiucheng N. Rd., 4.8 stars and 500-plus reviews, 03 936 5252, is the easiest first stop in that area. From TRA Yilan Station it's a five to ten minute walk into the market and the Jimmy Square area.

N-02Why does No. 168, Sec. 2 Fuxing Rd. have so many reviews?

新買醉餐酒館&COZZZY BAR — 4.9 stars, nearly 20,000 reviews, 0968 721 234 — is the largest single listing in the county, and the same address carries a second registration under its plain name with 7,000-plus. The format needs stating: it's a bistro. Lively tables, no dance floor. Anyone hunting a nightclub will misread that number — nothing in Yilan's registered bar listings has a dance floor.

N-03Which nights need a reservation?

Friday and Saturday. Yilan City's small bars have limited seating, and at the level of Gambling Bar at No. 212, Sec. 1 Shennong Rd. (perfect score, 970-plus reviews) or SHASHA BAR at No. 301, Sec. 1 Nyuzhong Rd. (4.7 stars, 220-plus), walking in after eight on a weekend doesn't guarantee a seat. On weekdays you can mostly just turn up. Sunday closes earliest in the week — don't plan a late one then.

N-04What do I do on a rainy night?

Rain is daily life in Yilan, so build the indoor plan first. All six singing rooms are indoors: 超級巨星自助式KTV 蘭陽康樂店 at No. 46 Kangle Rd. (4.1 stars, 780-plus reviews), V-MAX KTV 宜蘭店 at No. 326, Sec. 3 Zhongshan Rd. (perfect score, 390-plus), and 好樂迪KTV宜蘭店 on B1 at No. 50 Jiucheng E. Rd. (4.6 stars, 220-plus). The 20 massage and spa houses are indoor options too — the foot-work house at No. 187, Sec. 3 Nyuzhong Rd. is thickest at 4.9 stars and 2,600-plus.

N-05Can I manage car-free, and when do I need to head back?

Easily. Station, bus terminal, night market and old-town sights all sit in one walkable circle — the rare Yilan district that works without a car. After drinks, taxis and designated drivers are straightforward, and Jiaoxi or Luodong lodging is a short ride away. TRA and intercity coach last departures are per each operator's notices; if you're catching one, keep your final stop inside the station walking circle rather than out on Taishan Rd. or Lanfeng Rd.
