Friday, 7 p.m. — the corridor at No. 1023, Sec. 2, Zhongqing Rd is already queuing for rooms.
Beitun has no shortage of places to sing, scattered across four directions: Zhongqing Rd, the Chongde strip, Sec. 4 of Wenxin Rd, and the Junggong Rd side. Comparing them one by one never ends. This guide works differently: three gates, one question each. Answer all three and one venue is left in your hand.
Gate one: more than twelve people?
Yes? Stop reading here.
超級巨星自助式KTV 經貿旗艦店 at No. 1023, Sec. 2, Zhongqing Rd — 4.6 stars, 5,310-plus reviews, the most rooms in Beitun. For a twelve-plus party, everywhere else either splits you into two rooms or makes you wait for the big one; only this house takes you in one go. Beitun Main Station on the Green Line drops you at the door. Book at 04 2426 0088 — it still fills after 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, so call in the early afternoon.
Under twelve? Next gate.
Gate two: is singing the main course or the side dish?
Some people enter a room to sing; some enter to gather. The gatherers should look at two houses first.
五星海鮮宴會釣蝦KTV at No. 125 Dunfu E. St — 4.7 stars, 3,560-plus reviews. Shrimp fishing, seafood and private rooms under one roof; phone 0909 020 666. Birthdays, family gatherings, parties that need the kids occupied — in Beitun this is the only answer.
翎軒有鍋,KTV包廂 at No. 308 Junfu 9th Rd pairs hotpot with a karaoke room — 4.2 stars, 170-plus reviews. The score is flat and the sample small, but “the elders want a hot sit-down meal, the young ones want to sing” is a two-generation problem it solves in a single room. Call 04 2393 8282 to ask about room types.
If singing is the main course, walk through the last gate.
Gate three: where do you need to be when the night ends?
This one is about geography, not menus.
Ending near a ballgame or the Chongde strip — 超級巨星自助式KTV 洲際崇德店 at No. 430, Sec. 1, Chongde 10th Rd, 4.8 stars, 2,910-plus reviews, the highest score in the district. The Intercontinental stadium sits at No. 835, Sec. 3, Chongde Rd; night games let out around 9:30 p.m., and the taxi ride to the room takes about five minutes. Book at 04 2355 2288.
Ending with a metro ride back downtown — 好樂迪KTV 文心店 at No. 821, Sec. 4, Wenxin Rd, 4 stars, 1,650-plus reviews. A flat score, but Jiushe Station on the Green Line is within walking distance, making it the easiest escape before the last train.
Out east near Junggong Rd on a tight budget — 東區之星自助式KTV at No. 177 Hefu Rd, 4.3 stars, 2,150-plus reviews. Per-head pricing, self-serve drinks and snacks; for a young party of four to eight it works out cheapest.
The other trade — the kind whose signboards carry the word “理容” — is not behind any of these three gates.
The bill and the ride home
Self-service weekdays run about NT$200–400 per head, a tier higher on weekend nights; confirm rates on site. From November the year-end-party season kicks off, whole floors go to company bookings, and big parties should book two or three days out.
One more self-service rule worth memorising: prime-time rooms run on time slots, and when yours ends you yield the room. Want to sing long, book off-peak — weekday afternoons are walk-in territory and sit in the lowest price bracket.
The ride home has a single rule: if you drank, you do not touch the wheel. The Green Line’s last train leaves around midnight, about twenty minutes to City Hall Station; after that it is a taxi or a designated driver, and the car stays in the lot until tomorrow.
The lane-by-lane map of the east side is drawn in finer detail in Beitun KTV and late-night eats; how each house calculates its bill is broken down in the Taichung KTV price table; for the full roster and scores, check the Beitun KTV list and the Beitun district page.
For the nights the gates cannot answer — headcount undecided, food optional, no one knows when it ends — book the flagship on Zhongqing Rd. Most rooms, most room for error.
