Zhongshan Rd No. 60. One building, three bars.
The basement holds WR music bar音樂酒吧, 4.8 with 50-plus reviews; the sixth floor 陸樓 Bar, 4.1 with 30-plus; the seventh Funway Bar, 4.0 with 60-plus. Three rounds without leaving a stairwell — in Central District that is the exception, not the rule.
Central lists forty entries, about thirty-eight once you strip the double registrations. West District has eighty-plus, Xitun more. Different weight class. Accept it, then plan.
This one isn’t a route. It’s a clock.
6.30 to 8 p.m.: the neighbourhood is closing, not opening
Central’s busiest shopping streets trade by daylight.
The Second Market area, Electronics Street and the shopfronts on Jiguang St pull their shutters down through the early evening; closing times vary, and each venue’s own posting rules. Miyahara sits at Zhongshan Rd No. 20 and lights up beautifully after dark, but what it sells is ice cream, not a night out. Three minutes on foot from Taichung Station (Taiwan Blvd Sec. 1 No. 1) — take the photo and move on.
What you can actually sit down for in this window is dinner. 零酒NiteRoom at Ziyou Rd Sec. 2 No. 6 is 4.9 with 3,000-plus reviews, the loudest name in the district and registered on both the bar and KTV lists. AmucePlus IP主題展演酒吧 at Shifu Rd No. 36 is 4.4 with 290-plus, and SHU Club By 栖.Habitatto at Minzu Rd No. 202 is 4.7 — both within a ten-minute walk.
8 to 10 p.m.: the two hours when everything is open
Minzu Rd No. 194 is an interesting address.
Downstairs is 巷往餐酒館, 4.7 with 110-plus reviews; upstairs, W7 talking飛鏢bar, 4.6 with 140-plus. Eat, climb one flight, throw darts. The staircase is the venue change.
WOOSA music lounge bar in the basement of Jiguang St No. 40, 4.3 with 160-plus, is one of the few things still lit on Jiguang St after dark — the street sells clothes by day and keeps this one room underground by night. 淳酒吧 at Chenggong Rd No. 105 is 4.7 with 90-plus, phone 04 2229 8008; More時尚音樂酒吧 at Gongyuan Rd No. 32-2 is 4.1 with 90-plus. All small rooms. Four people or more, call first.
Hope Music Bar 台中音樂酒吧 at Zhonghua Rd Sec. 1 No. 185 is 4.9 with 390-plus and runs live music; 星越KTV on the second floor of the same address is 4.6 with 30-plus — a very small sample.
10 p.m. to midnight: volume at three points
If you want a safe bet in this window, three places.
Ziyou Rd Sec. 2: 零酒 at No. 6, 凅鄉 Lounge bar at No. 75 (4.8, 200 reviews). Then 11F Talking Bar on the 11th floor of Liuchuan W Rd Sec. 3 No. 16, 4.9 with 490-plus — the name states the purpose, which is talking rather than noise. The Liuchuan riverside walk lights up after dark and runs back toward the station.
The ground-floor-and-24th-floor pair on Jianguo Rd is covered in the Central old-town bar crawl, so no repeat here.
After midnight: who stays lit
This is the window where Central and Xitun part ways, and Central is the side that loses.
台中美樂地KTV, 8th floor of Block B, Lüchuan W St No. 135, is 4.5 with 5,800-plus reviews — the top review count in Central across every category. 銀櫃ktv一廣店 at No. 133, 11F-1, is 4.5 with 3,100-plus. KTV hours flex further than bar hours, so if you need somewhere to be at two in the morning it is usually one of these two. StarryKingdom星空王國音樂酒吧 on the 9th floor of Ziyou Rd Sec. 2 No. 72 also does singing, 4.7 with 80-plus, small sample.
On the bar side, call before you go. Small rooms here close on no common schedule and keep their own rest days. Don’t gamble.
Massage is the other answer. 千歲月足體養生工坊 台中台灣大道店 at Dadao Sec. 1 No. 201 holds a perfect 5.0 with 2,200-plus reviews, and 筋大俠推拿 at Zhongshan Rd No. 146 the same with 2,100-plus — both big houses. 好輕鬆足體養生館Relax Body at Jiguang St No. 118 (4.9, 220-plus) and 靜輕鬆足體養生館Ging Relax SPA Massage at Chenggong Rd No. 130 (4.9, 120-plus) run the small-shop line. Foot massage around NT$1,000 an hour; hours follow each venue’s posting.
Nights when Central is the wrong call
Want to dance, want a big room, want company at three in the morning? Central can’t supply it. That is the Qiqi club and bar comparison, twenty minutes by cab.
A party of ten or more, also no. Seating here is tight and four people already means booking. Count heads before you pick a district — how to plan a Taichung night sorts it by group size.
Supper, on the other hand, works. Plenty of station-front institutions run late; see the Taichung supper map.
Late lanes and the ride home
The old town’s lanes are narrow and the street lighting is thin, and foot traffic drains fast after midnight. Main roads, meet your ride at the corner, go accompanied when it’s quiet. Those three and you’re fine.
Drinking in Central has one built-in advantage: TRA Taichung Station is right here, and so is the Guancheng bus interchange. But trains have a last service, so anyone still drinking at two takes a cab or a designated driver all the same; drivers leave the car in the lot and collect it tomorrow. No exceptions on that one.
October nights have cooled and the Liuchuan stretch walks well. If tonight is a Central night, compress it between eight and midnight and give the two ends to another district.
