Xitun lists 92 venues: 43 for drinking, 41 massage shops, six general karaoke rooms — the biggest count of any district in Taichung. People talk about two engines here. There are three.
Engine One: Wenxin Rd.
No. 558-1 in Sec. 2 is the start; push into Sec. 3 and three more sit in a row.
No. 117 is Nobody Knows Bar 無人知曉, 4.8 stars on 740-plus reviews; No. 122 is 隨意餐酒館, 4.9 on 680-plus; No. 107 is 肉玉串燒居酒屋 ROUYU IZAKAYA, 4.9 on 670-plus. No. 69 is 太子悅養生會館, 4.4 on 1,600-plus — eat, drink and lie down on one road.
The MRT Green Line runs along Wenxin; get off at Wenxin Sakura. Of the three engines this is the one needing the least taxi work.
Over on the Shuinan side, No. 2 Shunping 2nd St. is 三条河原町 日式居酒屋水湳店, 4.8 stars on 2,500-plus reviews — thicker than most Qiqi bars. No. 168 Anhe 2nd St. is 銀河音樂酒吧, 4.9 on 1,900-plus, mobile 0976 088 388; whether there’s live music on a given night is per the venue’s own notice.
Engine Two: Fengjia
No. 365 Fuxing Rd. is 柒息地串燒居酒屋逢甲店, 4.9 stars on 5,800-plus reviews, 04 2452 5824 — the biggest izakaya in the area, and after eight on Friday and Saturday a booking is the difference between sitting and queuing.
2F, No. 17 Fengjia Rd. is LAVA Shisha Lounge 水煙 調酒 美食, 4.9 on 1,300-plus, shisha plus food and drink, so decide in advance if you don’t smoke. No. 123 Wenhua Rd. is Wales Coffee Bar, 4.9 on 1,200-plus; No. 20-7-2 Wenhua Rd. is 陸酒 Sixnine Bar 逢甲店 at 330-plus; No. 14, Aly. 19, Ln. 139 Wenhua Rd. is 魚煙居酒屋 at 420-plus; No. 693-1 Fuxing Rd. is 勝吉の宵町-居酒屋 深夜食堂 燒烤 串燒 熱炒 小酌, a perfect score on 290-plus.

Two Engines a Night, Maximum
The three engines sit about ten minutes apart by car. Run all three in one night and you’ll spend more time moving than sitting.
Pick two. Dinner and a drink in Qiqi, then late-night food in Fengjia, is the usual pairing; if you’d rather not move at all, the Wenxin Rd. line covers eating, drinking and massage on a single road. Late-night massage door numbers are on Xitun and Xitun bars and bistros — ask for lighter pressure if you’ve been drinking.
