Jiaoxi Massage: You're Already on the Hot-Spring Street — Sort the 28 Shops Into Four Piles

QUICK ANSWER Once you're in Jiaoxi, stop comparing ratings — all 28 shops sit at 4.6 or above. Sort by type: the 13 foot-massage shops take walk-ins, run about NT$600-900 an hour and stay open to 1-2 am; the 10 wellness parlours handle meridian and shoulder work in 60-90 minutes; the 5 spa houses sell 90-minute blocks, need booking ahead, posted prices rule.

22 October, a Thursday. It is raining in Jiaoxi.

You are already on the hot-spring street, so this page skips the “is it worth the trip” question — that one ran last week.

The harder question is the next one. Jiaoxi lists 28 massage and spa houses, every one of them rated 4.6 or higher, nine of them at a flat 5.0. No gap in the stars means no filter.

The filter is shop type.

Twenty-eight shops, four kinds

Laid out by the register’s own categories: 13 foot-massage shops, 10 wellness parlours, 5 spa houses. Pull out the ones that send a therapist to your hotel and you have four piles.

The 13 foot-massage shops

Fast is the whole character. Sit, unlock the feet, leave, and you’ll still sleep when you get back to the room half an hour later.

The heavyweight is at Deyang Rd 28 — 千歲月足體養生工坊 礁溪德陽店-cash only, 5,428 reviews at 4.9. The name says cash only, so don’t queue without notes. The same brand runs three more, on Deyang Rd 16, Gongyuan Rd 5 and Wenquan Rd 36. 素問足體工坊 at Ren’ai Rd 64 has 3,120 reviews, its second house 素問足體工坊(健康二館) at Jiankang Rd 38 has 3,260. At Sec. 5 of Jiaoxi Rd 59, 湯圍溝按摩-礁溪足體按摩放鬆 經絡推拿 SPA 刮痧拔罐 carries 1,490.

At Gongyuan Rd 20, 湧泉足體健康按摩(請先來電) writes the rule into its own brackets.

The 10 wellness parlours

Sessions stretch to 60 or 90 minutes, and the work moves up from the feet to meridians and shoulders.

泰棧舒壓館 at Sec. 5 of Jiaoxi Rd 45 holds 1,893 reviews at 4.8, about three minutes on foot from Tangweigou; 金滿足養生會館(忠孝店) at Zhongxiao Rd 91, 1st floor, has 1,764. Oil work versus Thai technique is covered elsewhere.

If you only want to sleep, don’t force the 90-minute session. You finish at 11:30, you still have to shower, and the 7 am hotel breakfast is gone.

The 5 spa houses

雅舍spa養生館 at Deyang Rd Lane 251 No. 1, Fl. 1-6, has 2,993 reviews at 5.0; 悠宅SPA養生會館 at Zhongxiao Rd 47 has 2,554.

Oil and hot stones mostly come in 90-minute blocks. Deciding at 8 pm is usually too late.

The two that come to you

悠㛊足體工坊 LINE ID:angelliaa 可到飯店或民宿 at Heping Rd 71 has 472 reviews; 唯獨伊家—spa紓壓-飯店預約按摩-礁溪按摩外出式-按摩泡湯 at Deyang Rd 221 has 62. Both put it in the shop name. 長榮鳳凰酒店(礁溪)-慢活spa at Jiankang Rd 77, 154 reviews, is the hotel’s own — dial extension 2420.

The “we have someone upstairs” offer at a front desk is not in the register. No address, no reviews.

Three minutes on foot, or a taxi

Measure from Tangweigou Hot Spring Park.

Deyang Rd, Ren’ai Rd, Sec. 5 of Jiaoxi Rd, Wenquan Rd and Xinyi Rd hold 21 of the 28, all within a three-to-eight-minute walk; TRA Jiaoxi Station is five to ten minutes out.

The other 7 are scattered across Jiankang Rd, Zhongxiao Rd, Gongyuan Rd and Heping Rd. Dry weather, ten more minutes, no problem.

Late October is the problem. The northeast monsoon clocks in and the rain runs a week at a time. Luggage in hand, hair just washed, slippers on your feet — any two of those and those seven need a taxi, because a wet night belongs indoors anyway.

Which nights to avoid this month

Monday to Thursday, walk onto Deyang Rd at 9 pm and most shops have a bed.

Friday, Saturday and long-holiday evenings from 8 to 11 are peak inn-guest hours, and two parties ahead of you is two hours. Booking a 90-minute spa session in that window means betting half your evening on a corridor chair. Two ways around it: before 4 pm, or after midnight — the foot shops often run to 1 or 2 am.

Give it thirty minutes after the soak. Your body is still shedding heat, and going straight onto the table for long oil strokes makes plenty of people dizzy. The order after you get out of the water is walk, eat, then massage.

Drinks with dinner don’t rule out a massage, but leave the car where it is and call a designated driver back to the room.

On the price, plainly

Jiaoxi is tourist-priced. Foot work at NT$600-900 an hour sits a step above Luodong and Yilan City. What you buy is three minutes from the bathhouse door and a lit shopfront after midnight. Worth it for one night; if you’re here a week, or based in Luodong, there’s no reason to travel north for it.

For the same 28 sorted by house number, the street-by-street page lists them; everything else after dark is on the Jiaoxi district page.

Turn the page to tomorrow. Friday, still raining — call today for anything you want booked, three days earlier for a long holiday.

FAQ

N-01How do you pick a massage shop in Jiaoxi without getting burned?

Not by rating. All 28 listed massage and spa houses in Jiaoxi sit between 4.6 and 5.0, so the stars separate nothing. Sort by type instead: if you only want your feet loosened before bed, take one of the 13 foot-massage shops and walk in; for shoulders and meridian work, the 10 wellness parlours run 60-90 minutes; for aroma oil or hot stones, the 5 spa houses sell 90-minute blocks and want a booking. Then read review counts — 5,428 at Deyang Rd 28 and sixty-odd at Xinyi Rd 1 describe two different kinds of shop.

N-02How late is Jiaoxi massage open, and which hours mean waiting?

The foot-massage group often runs to 1 or 2 am, which makes this one of the few streets in Yilan still lit after midnight; parlours and spa houses tend to close earlier, and each shop's posted hours rule. The waiting window is Friday, Saturday and long-holiday evenings between 8 and 11 pm, when everyone finishes their soak and dinner at once — two parties ahead of you on Deyang Rd is two hours. If you're staying in Jiaoxi, move it to before 4 pm or book an after-midnight slot. Monday to Thursday at 9 pm, most places have a bed free.

N-03What's the difference between foot massage, a wellness parlour and a spa house?

Length and method. Foot work is 40 minutes to an hour on feet and legs, quick enough that you walk out alert, about NT$600-900 an hour. Wellness parlours do meridian work, tuina and shoulders, from 60 to 90 minutes with extra time billed on top — the shops on Deyang Rd 67 and Zhongxiao Rd 91 are this type. Spa houses run aroma oil and hot stones, mostly in 90-minute blocks at posted prices; the two on Deyang Rd Lane 251 and Zhongxiao Rd 47 both carry over 2,500 reviews. If you just want to sleep, don't force a 90-minute session.

N-04Are all the Jiaoxi shops within walking distance?

Twenty-one are, seven are not. Deyang Rd, Ren'ai Rd, Sec. 5 of Jiaoxi Rd, Wenquan Rd and Xinyi Rd all fall within a three-to-eight-minute walk of Tangweigou Hot Spring Park, and TRA Jiaoxi Station is a five-to-ten-minute walk from the street. The seven on Jiankang Rd, Zhongxiao Rd, Gongyuan Rd and Heping Rd are a fine extra ten minutes in dry weather. In late October, when the northeast monsoon settles in and it rains for a week straight, take a taxi if you're carrying luggage or have just washed your hair.

N-05Is Jiaoxi massage priced for tourists, and is it worth it?

It is tourist pricing. Foot work at NT$600-900 an hour runs a step above Luodong and Yilan City, and spa-house work sits in its own band with posted prices ruling. What the gap buys is density and hours: three minutes from the bathhouse door, and still open at 1 or 2 am — no other town in Yilan gives you both. For a one-night stay it is worth paying. If you're here a week, or based in Luodong, there's no reason to come north just for a massage. Allow thirty minutes after your soak before lying down, and if dinner came with drinks, leave the car and call a designated driver.
